2027 Elections: Kwankwaso Open to APC Alliance But Under Strict Conditions, Says NNPP Chairman

The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has hinted that its 2023 presidential candidate and national leader, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, may consider reuniting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections but only if the ruling party is willing to reform and renegotiate its political direction.

This position was made known by the NNPP Chairman in Kano State, Hashim Dungurawa, during a press conference at the party’s secretariat. He explained that Kwankwaso, a seasoned democrat and influential political strategist, remains open-minded about future political alignments, provided such moves align with his principles and the broader goals of the NNPP.

Dungurawa revealed that the APC has been actively lobbying and applying “tactical pressure” to convince Kwankwaso to return to its fold, recognizing his unmatched political influence especially in Kano State. According to him, the APC views Kwankwaso as its best chance to reclaim the state in the coming elections.

However, he maintained that the NNPP leadership will not compromise its ideology or submit to undue pressure, stressing that any possible alliance must be based on meaningful negotiation and genuine political realignment.

Addressing recent reports of renewed interactions between Kwankwaso and former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as well as contact between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Ganduje, Dungurawa described the developments as purely coincidental. He dismissed speculation that the meetings signaled an imminent defection.

Reacting to the recent wave of NNPP members in the National Assembly decamping to the APC, Dungurawa expressed regret but insisted the defectors would struggle to find relevance in their new political home.

He reaffirmed the NNPP’s commitment to strengthening its structure and preparing robustly for the 2027 political season, regardless of external pressures or internal challenges.
