An explosion on Tuesday rocked the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, triggering panic among residents of the area.
Confirming the incident, the Kebbi State Police Command said no casualties were recorded. The explosion occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, prompting an immediate security response.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed in a statement that security agencies swiftly secured the area to forestall any further threat. According to him, a joint security team comprising the police, military and vigilante operatives cordoned off the hospital premises, while Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts were deployed to assess the scene.
Usman noted that although a building within the hospital’s staff quarters was damaged, the occupants had already evacuated, resulting in no loss of life or injuries.
He added that the Commissioner of Police has ordered additional tactical deployments to the area to maintain public order and reassure residents.
The police spokesperson said a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion, assuring that further updates would be communicated as developments unfold.
Residents were urged to remain calm and avoid the immediate vicinity of the hospital to allow security operatives to carry out their duties effectively.
