Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the recruitment of new officers into the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), a move aimed at strengthening grassroots security and improving response time across communities in the state.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA), Prince Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, FISN, disclosed this while speaking at the Lagos State Stakeholders’ Engagement and the official launch of the School Safety and Security Response Team for public primary schools statewide.
Prince Oyekan assured residents that the recruitment exercise would significantly boost the operational capacity of the agency, enabling quicker and more effective responses to security threats at the community level. He said the initiative reflects the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to creating a safe, secure and conducive environment for learning and everyday life in Lagos.
He recalled that the LNSA had earlier rolled out the Safer School Initiative, under which LNSC officers are deployed to safeguard pupils within and around school premises. According to him, the programme has recorded notable successes, including a sharp decline in inter-school violence, cult-related activities and drug peddling among schoolchildren.
The LNSA boss described the renewed emphasis on school safety as long overdue, stressing that protecting children requires collective responsibility and collaboration among government agencies, school administrators, parents and community stakeholders.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Shittu Hakeem Babatunde, who hosted the event, reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for pupils in public primary schools across Lagos.
The event was also attended by the Honourable Commissioner for Education (Basic and Secondary Education), Hon. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, as well as other key stakeholders in the education and security sectors.
