Remembrance Service in Rivers

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, on Sunday made their first public appearance since the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated fresh impeachment proceedings against the governor.

The duo attended a special church service held to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, alongside top government officials and political appointees.

The appearance comes just days after the House of Assembly, on Thursday, began another impeachment process against Governor Fubara the third such attempt in less than three years, further escalating political tension in Rivers State.

The church service was organised to honour Nigerian servicemen and women who lost their lives while defending the nation’s unity and sovereignty. Special prayers were offered for the fallen heroes and for the continued safety of personnel currently serving in the armed forces.

Despite the renewed political pressure and allegations of gross misconduct levelled by the lawmakers, Governor Fubara and members of his administration have so far remained silent on the impeachment move.

The development continues to attract attention as observers closely watch how the unfolding political crisis in Rivers State will evolve in the coming days.
