The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has revealed that nearly half of the party’s registered members are young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 35.
Speaking during an appearance on TVC Sunday Politics, Yilwatda said the ruling party now boasts a strong youth presence, countering past assumptions about where young Nigerians’ political loyalties lie.
“About 49.8 per cent of our members, as of yesterday, are between the ages of 18 and 35,” he said.
According to him, the figures demonstrate that the APC has become increasingly attractive to young people across the country.
“Our party is youthful, unlike before when we were deceived into thinking that most of the youths were with certain individuals. Now, we have proven to the world that most of the youths are with the APC,” Yilwatda stated.
The APC chairman also disclosed that the party is pursuing an ambitious membership expansion drive, targeting 20 million members nationwide.
He noted that the party is already approaching 12 million registered members through its ongoing electronic registration exercise.
Yilwatda said the e-registration initiative is part of broader efforts to modernize the party’s structure, improve data management, and strengthen grassroots engagement ahead of future elections.
