Several Injured as Two BRT Buses Collide in Lagos

Several passengers sustained injuries on Thursday morning, October 30, following a collision involving two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, near the Mangoro–Onipetesi axis of Ikeja, Lagos.

The incident, which occurred within the designated BRT corridor, reportedly happened when one of the buses swerved to avoid a commercial vehicle that had unlawfully entered the restricted lane. In the process, the driver lost control and collided head-on with another BRT bus approaching from the opposite direction.

An eyewitness account revealed that the driver’s attempt to avert a crash with the commercial bus resulted in the unfortunate collision. “The driver was trying to avoid hitting the commercial bus that suddenly entered the lane, but in doing so, he ran into another BRT,” the witness explained.‎

Emergency responders and good samaritans were said to have swiftly arrived at the scene to rescue the injured passengers, who were later taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Authorities confirmed that no fatalities were recorded.

Traffic officials later arrived to manage congestion and remove the damaged vehicles from the road, while urging drivers to adhere strictly to traffic rules and avoid using the BRT lane illegally.
