Nigeria Deserves Global Support, Not Threats – Lagos Lawmaker Tells Trump, Hails Tinubu’s Reforms

In response to recent comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump concerning Nigeria’s internal affairs, a Lagos lawmaker, Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji, has urged the international community, particularly the United States, to approach Nigeria with partnership and understanding rather than criticism and threats.

Hon. Adewale, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, made this statement on Friday, emphasizing that with the level of economic progress and security restructuring under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria should be receiving commendations, not condemnation.

According to the lawmaker, President Tinubu has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep understanding of Nigeria’s challenges, particularly in the areas of security, economy, and governance. He pointed to the recent changes in the leadership of the Armed Forces as a bold move aimed at restoring national stability and strengthening the country’s fight against terrorism, banditry, and other criminal elements.

“President Bola Tinubu, as a father to the nation, has shown concern and commitment to restoring peace across all regions,” Adewale said. “He is not happy that bandits, terrorists, or whatever name they go by, continue to threaten the peace of our people. That is why he has mandated the newly appointed service chiefs to decisively end insecurity in the country. This administration will never pamper terrorists or their sponsors.”

Hon. Adewale further argued that Nigeria’s economic progress under Tinubu’s administration is being recognized globally, and that the U.S. should be building alliances rather than issuing threats. He noted that the naira’s improved performance and the revitalization of sub-national economies are clear indicators that the government’s reforms are yielding tangible results.

“In the last two years, global organizations and foreign observers have acknowledged Nigeria’s growing economic momentum. For the first time in a long while, state governments are beginning to experience fiscal stability and economic independence. The economy is gradually being rebuilt on a solid foundation,” the lawmaker noted.

He stressed that what Nigeria needs now is international collaboration and constructive engagement rather than foreign interference or aggressive diplomacy. According to him, global support will help Nigeria consolidate its security architecture, create jobs for its youth, and strengthen democratic institutions.

“Our partners abroad, especially the United States, must understand that Nigeria is a key player in Africa’s stability,” Adewale said. “The best way to support our progress is through strategic partnership, intelligence sharing, investment, and mutual respect. President Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ is not just a slogan; it is a transformative vision that is already reshaping the nation’s trajectory.”

Hon. Adewale encouraged Nigerians to remain patient and steadfast, noting that the government’s reforms, though challenging, are already beginning to yield positive dividends. He also urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to sustain their current momentum and ensure that insurgency, banditry, and other forms of insecurity are brought to a permanent end.

“As citizens, we must support our military and security agencies to succeed. The service chiefs have been given a clear mandate to protect the lives and property of every Nigerian. Let’s continue to trust the process and believe in the results that are emerging,” he added.

In conclusion, the lawmaker called for unity, faith, and patriotism, stating that Nigeria’s progress depends on both domestic cooperation and constructive international relations. He reiterated that now is the time for global allies to stand with Nigeria, not against her, as the nation continues its journey toward sustainable growth and peace.
