Anthony Joshua Speaks Out After Fatal Lagos–Ibadan Expressway Crash

Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has made his first public statement following a tragic car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close friends and members of his team.

The fatal crash occurred on Monday, December 29, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, resulting in the deaths of Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele. Joshua, who sustained minor injuries in the incident, was treated in hospital and discharged on New Year’s Eve before returning to the United Kingdom on Saturday.

On Sunday, the 36-year-old boxer broke his silence on social media, sharing a photo of himself standing with the families of the deceased. He simply captioned the post, “My Brother’s Keeper,” a gesture widely seen as a show of solidarity and support during their time of grief.

The image, shared across his platforms, shows Joshua alongside the bereaved families as preparations continue for the burial of both victims later on Sunday.

Reports indicate that the accident happened after Joshua’s SUV, carrying four occupants, suffered brake failure and collided with a stationary truck. Joshua narrowly escaped death after switching from the front passenger seat to the back shortly before the crash, reportedly because his size was obstructing the driver’s view.

Although he sustained a leg fracture, Joshua was said to be in stable condition and did not require emergency surgery. The boxer had been in Nigeria on holiday following his recent knockout victory over Jake Paul.
