Army Reaffirms Unbiased Security Commitment in Taraba as Wurkum Chiefdom Commends Operations

The Nigerian Army has restated its unwavering commitment to impartial security operations across Taraba State, assuring residents of sustained efforts to protect lives, restore peace, and promote community development. This assurance was given by the Commander of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, during a courtesy visit by a high-powered delegation from the Wurkum Chiefdom over the weekend.

Receiving the delegation at the Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo, General Uwa emphasized that the Army remains committed to defending all communities fairly and professionally, regardless of ethnic or cultural affiliations. He noted that the stability recently restored in Karim Lamido Local Government Area is a product of collective cooperation among security agencies, the state government, traditional institutions, and local residents.

He urged citizens across the state to uphold peace, obey constituted authorities, and embrace dialogue as a constructive tool for resolving disputes. According to him, sustainable peace can only thrive when communities actively support ongoing efforts to strengthen security and harmony.

General Uwa highlighted that the Brigade’s recent security breakthroughs particularly in crisis-prone areas were achieved through coordinated intelligence gathering, rapid deployment of troops, and consistent community engagement. He expressed optimism that Taraba State would continue to witness improved stability as long as stakeholders remain united.

The Wurkum delegation was led by Mr. Iliya Idris, representing the Chief of Wurkum. Idris extended the Chiefdom’s appreciation to the Brigade’s officers and troops for their timely and professional intervention during the communal tensions between the Shomo and Wurkum tribes. He noted that the Army’s presence prevented the conflict, especially in Usmanu Village, from escalating into a widespread crisis.

He praised the Army for its unbiased troop deployment, which restored confidence in state institutions and enabled displaced residents to return to their communities. According to him, constant monitoring, enforcement of law and order, and quick response to distress situations were instrumental in restoring normalcy.

Idris reaffirmed the Wurkum people’s commitment to peace, unity, and lawful behavior, stating that they will continue to support the Army’s mission to maintain stability in the region.

The delegation also used the visit to extend condolences to the Nigerian Army over the death of Brigadier General M. Uba, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the military and the nation as a whole.

The visit concluded with both parties expressing renewed resolve to strengthen collaboration in safeguarding lives and ensuring lasting peace across Taraba State.
