Suspected bandits have reportedly attacked the National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, leaving about five personnel feared dead.
The attack occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Although the exact number of casualties is yet to be officially confirmed, sources said no fewer than five NPS operatives lost their lives during the assault.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the attackers are yet to be identified.
“Yes, there was an attack by unknown gunmen on personnel of the National Park Service. The Commissioner of Police and other security chiefs are currently on their way to the scene,” Ayanlade stated.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has deployed tactical teams, Mobile Police Force operatives, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to the area to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
