FG Condemns Kebbi School Attack, Assures Swift Rescue Operation for Abducted Students

Government Vows Justice for Victims, Strengthens Security Measures Nationwide

The Federal Government has strongly condemned the tragic attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, where armed bandits killed the school’s Vice-Principal and abducted 25 female students.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government expressed deep concern over the incident and assured Nigerians that immediate and decisive steps are being taken to rescue the abducted girls and apprehend those responsible for the heinous act.

According to the Minister, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu considers the protection of Nigerian citizens especially schoolchildren a top national priority. He noted that the President has given direct and urgent orders to all security and intelligence agencies to locate the victims, ensure their safe return, and neutralize the criminal network behind the assault.

“The government condemns this reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials who were diligently carrying out their duties,” the statement read. “Our security and intelligence agencies have received strict directives to rescue the students safely and bring the perpetrators to justice. The Federal Government will not relent until this mission is accomplished.”

Idris emphasized that the administration is intensifying efforts to overhaul and strengthen Nigeria’s internal security architecture. This includes recalibrating military operations, enhancing policing systems, and boosting intelligence coordination to better prevent attacks and enable rapid response when threats occur.

He further revealed that Nigeria is also deepening security cooperation with regional organizations such as ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to tighten border security and disrupt cross-border criminal activities.

“Nigerians are urged to remain calm and confident as government agencies work tirelessly to restore safety and bring back our girls,” the Minister added.

Reports from the community indicate that the attack occurred late Sunday night, with gunmen storming the school in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area and killing Vice-Principal Hassan Makuku before abducting multiple students. Witnesses described the operation as swift and unchallenged, plunging the region into fear and grief.

The Federal Government reiterated its solidarity with the affected families and assured that no effort will be spared in securing the release of the abducted schoolgirls and restoring peace to the community.
