A late-night fire has destroyed the 13 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron office and armoury in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, with sources confirming that the inferno completely gutted the facility. A video of the fire, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the Mopol 13 premises engulfed in flames, with the offices and armoury reduced to ashes.
The cause of the fire could not be immediately determined as of the time of filing this report.
In the video, a distressed narrator describes the extent of the damage, claiming that the armoury was entirely consumed by the blaze.
“This is Mopol 13 that burned this morning. This is the armoury; everything burned,” the voice said, adding that the Squadron Commander’s office was also affected by the fire.
Attempts to reach the Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, for official confirmation were unsuccessful, as calls to her phone were not returned.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and provide further details in due course.
