INEC Declares Soludo Winner of Anambra Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), as the winner of the Anambra State Governorship Election, following the conclusion of collation across all 21 local government areas.

Announcing the final results at the INEC State Collation Centre in Awka on Sunday, the State Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Edogah Omoregie, stated that a total of 584,054 votes were recorded in the election. Soludo emerged victorious with 422,664 votes, maintaining a commanding lead over his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 99,445 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 8,208 and 1,401 votes, respectively.

The election, which many analysts described as one of the most peaceful and transparent polls in recent times, has drawn commendations for INEC’s improved efficiency and adherence to due process. The commission’s effective use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the prompt upload of results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) were particularly lauded as major steps toward restoring public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system.

Across the state, voters and observers expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of the election. Civil society organizations and monitoring groups praised INEC’s logistics, voter management, and security coordination, noting that the process reflected a genuine commitment to electoral transparency.

A voter in Onitsha described the exercise as “a victory for democracy and proof that credible elections are achievable in Nigeria.” Another voter in Nnewi said, “INEC has raised the bar — the process was smooth, and results were transmitted in real time without interference.”

With this victory, Soludo who first assumed office in 2021 consolidates APGA’s political dominance in Anambra State, continuing the party’s legacy as a strong regional force rooted in grassroots development and self-determination. His anticipated acceptance speech is expected to focus on unity, continuity, and renewed efforts toward economic and infrastructural transformation in the state.

Political analysts believe INEC’s performance in the Anambra election could serve as a model for future polls nationwide, reaffirming the commission’s readiness to deliver credible, technology-driven elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
