Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has firmly dismissed widespread speculation suggesting that Muhammadu Sanusi II may be removed from his position as the Emir of Kano.
The governor stated that there is “absolutely no plan or agreement” to unseat the monarch, describing the rumours as baseless and driven by individuals intent on creating tension in the state.
This clarification was conveyed by the Director-General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sanusi Bature, during an interview with Weekend Trust.
Bature explained that the speculation was fuelled by misinformation and stressed that the government has no intention of amending any existing laws concerning the Kano emirate structure.
“There is no plan to replace Emir Sanusi on the throne of Kano,” Bature said. “The appointment of the Emir was carried out after the emirates law was repealed, and there is no plan at the executive level for any further amendment.”
He further noted that recent political developments, including defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC), have no bearing on the status of the Emir.
“Emir Sanusi has been duly appointed in accordance with the repeal law, and political movements will not in any way change the status quo. Emir Sanusi remains the Emir of Kano. There is no move or intention to substitute him,” he added.
The governor’s aide urged the public to disregard the rumours and avoid being misled by unfounded claims aimed at stirring unrest.
