OSOGBO — With less than 24 hours to the Accord Party governorship primary in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally joined the party, marking a major political shift ahead of the 2026 election.
Adeleke, who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on December 1, confirmed yesterday that he had actually joined Accord Party earlier on November 6 after weeks of strategic consultations with political stakeholders and opinion leaders.
The official announcement was made at the Government House Banquet Hall in the presence of both national and state leaders of the Accord Party.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor revealed that Accord Party would serve as the platform for his re-election bid, emphasizing that the party’s core ideology aligns closely with his administration’s commitment to welfare-driven governance.
Governor Adeleke explained:
“We opted for Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens and workers’ welfare. I joined the party more than a month ago as the platform to seek re-election in 2026.”
He welcomed Accord’s leadership into the Osun State Government House, calling for unity and collective purpose as the state approaches another crucial election cycle.
Adeleke highlighted his administration’s achievements, noting that prioritizing the well-being of citizens has been the guiding principle of his governance. From infrastructure developments to enhanced social services, he insisted that Osun State has seen unprecedented improvements under his leadership.
Looking ahead to the August 2026 governorship polls, Adeleke declared Accord Party as the new vehicle for continuity and progress across Osun’s three senatorial districts West, East, and Central.
“Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026. The people are for continuity, and Accord is our party for victory,” he said.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to inclusive leadership and expressing confidence that Accord Party will secure victory in the upcoming election.
