The political atmosphere in Osun State has heated up once again as the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern condemnation of Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing him of abandoning his responsibilities at a time the state is facing growing security concerns. The opposition party criticized the governor’s latest foreign trip, describing it as an irresponsible act that further exposes what it called a pattern of unserious governance since he assumed office.
In a statement released on Saturday by its State Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the Osun APC expressed frustration over what it referred to as the “persistent misgovernance and repeated missteps” that have marked Governor Adeleke’s administration since November 2022. The party argued that the governor’s actions consistently portray him as unprepared and lacking the leadership depth required to manage a state as complex as Osun.
According to the APC, the governor’s style of governance over the last three years has left many residents disillusioned, with growing concerns over his priorities and decision-making. The statement stressed that instead of demonstrating commitment to addressing pressing local issues particularly insecurity Governor Adeleke appears more invested in the glamour and prestige of office.
The party expressed particular dismay over the governor’s recent trip to Texas, United States, where he attended a birthday celebration at a time when neighbouring Kwara State was grappling with heightened banditry. The APC questioned why the governor would prioritise a private event abroad while his own state faced security threats.
The statement highlighted that President Bola Tinubu had postponed a scheduled working visit to South Africa in order to respond to urgent security challenges in northern Nigeria. The party argued that this level of responsiveness stood in stark contrast to Adeleke’s decision to travel for leisure.
“It is difficult to comprehend how a sitting governor would choose to attend a birthday party while his state is under security pressure,” the APC said, adding that Governor Adeleke had reportedly travelled to the United States for personal reasons at least six times in the current year alone.
Beyond security concerns, the opposition party also criticised Adeleke’s handling of local governance. According to the APC, grassroots administrative structures in Osun have been largely dormant for eight months, yet the governor has shown no visible effort to reactivate or strengthen them. This gap, they argued, has contributed to growing governance challenges at the community level.
Another issue raised was the ongoing strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), which has resulted in the closure of courts across the state for more than two months. The APC accused the governor of ignoring the crisis, insisting that his perceived indifference has left millions of residents without access to justice. The party lamented that while the judiciary is crippled and citizens are stranded, the governor continues to “dance across cities and continents.”
The APC urged citizens to remain patient as the state moves gradually toward the next governorship election in November 2026, which they described as a constitutional opportunity for change. It also advised residents to stay vigilant and take proactive steps concerning their personal safety, given the rising tension in surrounding states.
The party concluded by reiterating that leadership demands responsibility, presence, and commitment qualities it says the current administration has consistently failed to demonstrate. As insecurity continues to rise and public institutions remain weakened, the Osun APC insists that Governor Adeleke must refocus his priorities or risk further undermining the well-being of the people he was elected to serve.
