Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has addressed weeks of intense public speculation and personal controversy by voluntarily undergoing a drug test, a decision she says was driven by accountability, integrity, and a desire to set the record straight.
The actress made the disclosure in an emotional Instagram post on Wednesday, describing the past few months as one of the most challenging periods of her life. According to Daniels, the season was marked by deep emotional strain, widespread scrutiny, and narratives that nearly overwhelmed her.
“The past few months of my life have been nothing short of heavy,” she wrote. “One of those seasons that tries to sit on your chest and ask, ‘So, what are we doing next?’ It has been a major turning point, one that shook me to my core. Everything I had ever known was drowning right in front of me.”
Despite the turmoil, Daniels said she emerged stronger, crediting the unwavering support she received from her family, close friends, and members of the public who stood by her during the storm.
“But here’s the plot twist…I didn’t drown with it,” she continued. “I was carried by overwhelming love, support, patience, and understanding from my family, my friends, and people who believed in me. For that, I am forever grateful.”
She explained that her decision to take a drug test was not an attempt to appease critics, but a personal choice rooted in self-respect and responsibility, particularly as a public figure and role model to many young people.
“After much reflection and a few very long conversations with myself, I decided to take this test because I owe it to the people who love me and the people who look up to me,” Daniels stated. “Integrity matters. Accountability matters. And peace of mind especially matters.”
The actress said persistent rumours portraying her as a drug addict were deeply hurtful and unfair, prompting her to confront the narrative head-on. She described the allegations as baseless projections that gained traction across social media and gossip platforms.
“One phrase echoed loudly across the media: ‘Regina is a drug addict,’” she wrote. “I paused and checked again. I looked at myself repeatedly, searching for this so-called addict. I searched so hard it almost felt like I was going psychic. Then it hit me people often project their fears, insecurities, and negativity onto you. But projection is not reality, and noise is not truth.”
Daniels emphasized that she has chosen to define herself on her own terms rather than be shaped by public opinion, insisting that truth and consistency will ultimately prevail.
“We all have a choice: to be defined by other people’s opinions or to create our own narrative,” she said. “As for me, I choose the latter every single time. The same mouth that was used to spoil my name is the same mouth that will build it back up.”
She described the experience as a period of personal awakening, noting that she is now focused on self-discovery, intentional growth, and clarity about her future. Daniels also expressed deep gratitude to God for sustaining her through what she described as a trying and transformative season.
“This chapter of my life is about growth, self-awareness, and becoming even more intentional about who I am and where I’m going,” she wrote. “I thank God endlessly for His grace, His strength, and His excellence in my life. He carried me through it all. I’m still standing, still growing, and just getting started.”
The announcement comes against the backdrop of intense public scrutiny surrounding Daniels’ marriage to billionaire businessman and lawmaker, Senator Ned Nwoko. Reports suggest that the relationship has deteriorated into a bitter estrangement, with both parties making serious allegations against each other in recent months.
Daniels has accused Nwoko of domestic abuse and attempting to force her into rehabilitation, claiming that members of her family were detained as a means of pressuring her. Nwoko has firmly denied these claims.
In response, Nwoko alleged that the actress has been struggling with substance use, stating that he arranged therapy after observing what he described as “concerning behaviour linked to dependence on certain illegal substances.” His camp has further claimed that medical records and toxicology reports allegedly show Daniels tested positive for drugs and alcohol at dangerous levels claims the actress has consistently disputed.
With her decision to take a voluntary drug test, Daniels says she hopes to reclaim her narrative, restore public confidence, and move forward with clarity and peace of mind.
As she concluded in her message: “I’m still here. We move.”
