The political landscape in Nigeria is set for another major shift as the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares to formally receive Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, into its fold. After months of intense speculation and political maneuvering, Governor Kefas is expected to officially defect from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on Wednesday, November 19.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC has confirmed its readiness to welcome the governor. Speaking on Saturday, the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, revealed that all arrangements for the ceremony have been finalized.
“The entire National Working Committee members of the APC will receive Governor Kefas on November 19. We are prepared for the event,” Basiru said.
Kefas, one of the few remaining PDP governors, has been at the center of defection rumors for nearly five months. His switch to the APC marks yet another significant blow to the PDP, which has seen a series of high-profile defections in recent months.
Should he make the move as expected, Kefas will become the fourth PDP governor to join the APC within the year. Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori crossed over on April 23, 2025, followed by Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom on June 6, 2025, and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri on November 3, 2025.
Signs of Kefas’ impending defection became clearer after an official invitation card for the event surfaced on social media on Saturday. According to the invitation, the ceremony will hold at 1pm at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital. The event is expected to attract top APC leaders, supporters, and political stakeholders from across the region.
With this move, political analysts anticipate a reshaping of the power dynamics in the North-East ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the APC continues to strengthen its influence across key states.
