A United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has raised fresh concerns over reported threats and attacks against Christian communities in Nigeria, describing the situation as clear religious persecution.
In a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday night, Moore cited statements attributed to an Islamic State–affiliated group and said the ongoing debate over the motives behind violence targeting Christians in Nigeria should be put to rest.
“If there were any remaining doubts that Christians in Nigeria are being targeted for their faith in Jesus Christ, this should end that debate,” the congressman wrote.
He dismissed alternative explanations often advanced for the violence, insisting that the attacks are driven by religious extremism.
“This isn’t about land usage, ‘climate change,’ or any other argument the Left wants to make. This is persecution of our brothers and sisters for their faith in Christ, plain and simple,” Moore stated.
The US lawmaker was reacting to posts circulating earlier on X, which claimed that the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) had released an image allegedly showing a Christian village in Adamawa State engulfed in flames.
Moore’s comments have renewed international attention on Nigeria’s security challenges, particularly concerns over religiously motivated violence in parts of the country.
