Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has issued a strong warning to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, following the governor’s defection from the party.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, the former Kano State governor cautioned that Governor Yusuf’s exit from the NNPP would come with consequences, insisting that those who left the party would eventually regret abandoning the political platform that brought them to power.
Kwankwaso, who leads the Kwankwasiyya Movement, described the defection as shocking and difficult to comprehend, noting that the manner in which the governor left the party has unsettled NNPP members and supporters across Kano State.
According to him, the development has generated widespread confusion, with many party faithful approaching him to express doubts and concerns over the circumstances surrounding the defection.
“Several people have come to me believing that what happened was part of an arrangement either between me and him or between me and those close to him,” Kwankwaso said.
“Even I, at many points, find it hard to understand how events unfolded the way they did.”
He maintained that time would ultimately reveal the full implications of the political decision, stressing that actions taken in politics often carry long-term consequences.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, after tendering his resignation from the NNPP on Friday.
