Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has assured residents of their safety despite rising banditry attacks in neighbouring states. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor urged citizens not to panic but to remain vigilant and proactive in supporting security operations across the state.
Governor Adeleke emphasized that his administration has held several high-level security meetings over the past three weeks to prevent any infiltration of bandits into Osun. He noted that a comprehensive security action plan is already in motion, with enhanced surveillance and deployment across vulnerable areas.
He commended the collaborative efforts of the Commissioner of Police, the Director of State Security (DSS), Army Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security formations, highlighting their commitment to safeguarding Osun communities. The governor also acknowledged the supportive role of the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of DSS, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the NSCDC Commandant General in strengthening security measures within the state.
According to him, the intelligence community has maintained a robust grasp of potential threats, applauding the DSS for successful operations that led to the arrest of high-profile terrorists and the dismantling of criminal cells within the state. He urged residents to promptly report any suspicious activity or unfamiliar movements in their communities, stressing that credible information remains vital to preventing crime.
Adeleke directed the Amotekun Corps to intensify collaboration with the police, local vigilante groups, and hunter associations in order to bolster community safety. He cautioned that all security efforts must operate within established protocols to ensure maximum effectiveness.
Addressing other state matters, the governor noted that stakeholders are awaiting the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government issues and called on residents to remain law-abiding. On the judiciary impasse, he expressed confidence that the judicial arm would resolve its internal challenges without executive interference.
Governor Adeleke reaffirmed that governance in Osun remains uninterrupted, citing achievements in the digital economy, economic empowerment programs, workers’ welfare, and infrastructural development across various towns. He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from residents, adding that their encouragement strengthens his administration’s determination to continue delivering democratic dividends.
