BREAKING: Sanwo-Olu Backs Hamzat as Preferred Successor for 2027 Lagos Governorship

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as his preferred candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election, signaling an early move in the state’s political succession plan.

The endorsement came after a high-level consultative meeting held at Lagos House in Marina, where Hamzat formally declared his intention to contest the governorship. The meeting brought together members of the State Executive Council, party leaders, and key stakeholders across Lagos State.

Also present at the gathering were influential members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, including Musiliu Obanikoro and Ganiyu Solomon, alongside other prominent figures within the state’s political structure, reflecting a broad consensus among decision-makers.

Speaking after the meeting, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the endorsement as a collective decision reached by stakeholders, emphasizing that Hamzat possesses the experience, capacity, and readiness to lead Lagos State. He highlighted their longstanding working relationship and Hamzat’s deep involvement in governance, policy implementation, and administrative coordination.

The governor also acknowledged the influence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in shaping Lagos’ political leadership and ensuring continuity within the state’s governance framework.

Hamzat’s endorsement is viewed as a major step in early political positioning within the All Progressives Congress (APC), as consultations and strategic alignments begin ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development is expected to intensify political conversations in Lagos, with increasing focus on succession planning, governance continuity, and party unity as the next electoral cycle approaches.
