Tinubu Swears In Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in renowned tax expert Taiwo Oyedele as Nigeria’s Minister of State for Finance.

The brief swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday at the State House Abuja, marking a new addition to the federal government’s economic leadership team.

The appointment is expected to strengthen the administration’s economic reform agenda as the government continues to pursue fiscal and tax policy reforms aimed at stabilizing Nigeria’s economy.

Before his new appointment, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, where he led efforts to develop proposals aimed at restructuring Nigeria’s tax system.

His committee has been central to several policy recommendations designed to improve revenue generation, simplify tax administration, and stimulate economic growth.

Oyedele is widely recognized for his expertise in taxation and economic policy, having previously held senior roles in the private sector and served as a policy adviser on fiscal matters.

The swearing-in is seen as part of President Tinubu’s broader strategy to strengthen the country’s economic management team as Nigeria faces challenges including inflation, currency volatility, and revenue shortfalls.

As Minister of State for Finance, Oyedele is expected to work closely with the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Finance Nigeria in implementing fiscal policies and supporting economic reforms.

Observers believe his experience in tax policy could play a critical role in the government’s efforts to expand Nigeria’s revenue base and reduce reliance on borrowing.

Nigeria has been implementing a series of economic reforms aimed at improving fiscal discipline, increasing non-oil revenues, and strengthening the country’s financial system.

With Oyedele’s appointment, analysts expect renewed emphasis on tax reforms, improved revenue collection, and policies that support sustainable economic growth.

More details about the administration’s plans and the scope of the new minister’s responsibilities are expected to emerge in the coming days.
